I have been scheming a mega surprise for some months with Louis’ brother Dan and sister-in-law Jill to have them come to visit us for 10 days without anyone in my family knowing and yesterday my plan came off without a hitch! They arrived at the Chiang Mai airport just a few hours before Tess was scheduled to perform and complete the “bridging” ceremony at CMIS, crossing over the bridge from elementary into middle school. (She actually did that already last year when she graduated from elementary in the US, but schools vary in terms of when they define the start of middle school.) Anyway, because they were scheduled to arrive close to the start of Tess’ ceremony, I had to cook up a reason to have Louis come with me to the airport before we went to school. I had my friend Daniel King from EarthRights International send me a text message indicating that he needed a favor which was to pick up an ERI intern. Thus, we arrived at the airport and Louis was standing there with a sign for “Daniel Lee, ERI” when his brother and sister-in-law appeared in front of him. Here is the video. He remains typically cool calm and collected!
I love surprises and if I am not going to get any myself (not Louis’ area of speciality to say the least!), then I will live vicariously!
While his brother Dan was in the Bangkok airport awaiting the flight to Chiang Mai, he wrote Louis an email. Here is the chain which includes Louis’ response after they had arrived, and Jill’s response to that. LOL!

How are y’all doing? We’ve been keeping an eye on things and there doesn’t seem to be too much strife up near you but maybe I’m not getting all the news that’s fit to print.
How all’s well and things stay calm.
Send an update.

I’m okay. I’m a little troubled though. It seems that Gillian has been lying to me about a lot of things. I’m just now realizing that she is somewhat pathological and may need to be institutionalized. I wish you were here, it would be so much better if I had some family around to help me through this problem. I feel so far away here in Thailand.
help,
Louis

So sorry Lou, we’ve always known Gillian was a liar but it sucks you have to find out about it this way. What was it anyway? Somebody else? A secret life? You know we’re always here for you. Wishing we were there.
